Believe it or not, there is an herb called rupturewort (Herniaria glabra). According to the old-time herbalist Gerard, “It is reported that being drunke it is singular good for Ruptures and that very many that have been bursten were restored to health by the use of this herbe. . . .” Like I said, believe it or not.
Many people find that a truss takes care of their problem nicely, particularly when surgery for some reason seems undesirable. Which reminds me of a small store that used to be located on Philadelphia’s Ninth Street, a few blocks north of Market, that sold nothing but trusses and had a large sign in the window proclaiming “Your Rupture Is Our Rapture.”
